Today (27th July), a news item was posted on the Australian ABC News web-site titled ‘Activist in pig protest’.
‘… A Tasmanian animal rights activist will brave tonight’s icy temperatures in a protest on Hobart’s Parliament House lawn.
Clare Knight plans to spend 24 hours in a steel cage known as a farrowing crate, usually reserved for female pigs after they’ve given birth.
Animal rights groups want the State Government to ban the crates.
Ms Knight has described the crates as torture.
“They can’t interact with their young, they can’t move,” she said.
“They have to just lie there and suffer, lie there in their own waste.”
Tasmania recently banned sow stalls, which are used when pigs are pregnant …’
