Today (22nd August), an item was posted on the web-site of the League Against Cruel Sports (LACS) titled ‘Success at the Bird Fair’.
‘… The League has been attending the Bird Fair for several years now and we have always been shown a warm welcome by both organisers and visitors. This year, however, has quite possibly been our most successful to date …
The Midlands group, run by their fearless leader John, have prepared for, and worked the exhausting three day event every year since I joined the League. Having attended the Bird Fair twice in that time, I can vouch for how much time and hard work goes into not just speaking to visitors but also in getting the stand ready for the thousands and thousands of people who come by.
It is because I know how hard the group have worked to make this event a success that I was thrilled to learn that this year the League’s stand was awarded with the honour of second best stand in show. Considering that the majority of the other stands are commercial businesses, it is a real achievement that the Midlands group have managed to put together such a fantastic and now ‘award winning’ design.
From all the staff at the League we wanted to say a huge thank you to the Midlands group for all your commitment and dedication to communicating the campaigns of the League to the public. We wouldn’t be able to continue our work without people like you.
The League’s Chief Executive Joe Duckworth also delivered a talk to a packed audience at the Fair on the new film ‘Gunsmoke and Mirrors’. The presentation showed clips of the film and discussed in depth the three main issues shown in the film:
1. Factory farming and the release of gamebirds
2. Cruel gamekeeping practices and predator control
3. Wounding, wastage and pollution
All in all, a pretty successful fair! Hopefully we’ll see you there next year!!
