Today (26th June), a news item was posted on dailymail.co.uk titled ‘Female zoo keeper charged with animal cruelty after euthanising wallaby and dumping it in a bin’.

‘… A Virginia zoo keeper has been charged with animal cruelty after she euthanised a wallaby and dumped it in a rubbish bin.

Reston Zoo director Meghan Mogensen, 26, of Silver Spring, Maryland, was arrested by Fairfax County police on Friday.

Officers were tipped off about the animal’s death by a zoo employee …

Ms Mogensen has also been charged with improper possession of euthanasia drugs after a four month investigation into the Kangaroo-like creature’s killing, according to Patch.com

But police said the Reston Zoo doesn’t have the training or certification to euthanise its animals.

A former northern Virginia animal control officer, who didn’t want to be named, told NBC News that the zoo was stupid to administer euthanasia drugs without a permit or a vet.

‘It’s extremely regulated,’ she said. ‘These drugs are not given out to anybody. If it’s a zoo, they have to have a vet on staff …’
