‘BUAV welcomes Air China ban on the transportation of primates for research’

Posted on September 6, 2012

Today (6th September), the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) posted a news item on their web-site titled ‘BUAV welcomes Air China ban on the transportation of primates for research’.

‘… The BUAV is delighted to report that Air China has stopped transporting primates destined for the research industry. We have been in direct contact with Air China and waited to post our statement until we had the situation fully clarified.

Air China has been a regular transporter of macaques from China to the USA.

Air China now joins the BUAV’s growing list of airlines to take a stance against the cruel business of shipping primates around the world for experimentation. Other airlines include British Airways, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Northwest Airlines, Qantas, South African Airways, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Eva Air and China Airlines.

The BUAV has over the years led the campaign to end the international transportation of primates for the research industry. Our hard-hitting investigations and research have uncovered the cruelty and suffering inflicted on primates and our campaign has received the support from many other animal groups and individuals across the world for which we are grateful.

There are now only a few airlines that continue to be involved in this cruel trade, including Air France, China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines. Please support the BUAV Cargo Cruelty campaign.
