Today (6th September), an item was posted on the web-site of the League Against Cruel Sports (LACS) titled ‘STOP THE BADGER CULL CAMPAIGN GOES NATIONWIDE’.

‘… The League Against Cruel Sports and our various national, regional and local badger campaign partners are going nationwide in our campaign to stop the proposed badger cull.

The cull is scheduled to begin in the pilot areas of West Gloucestershire and West Somerset after the Paralympics later this month. Time is of the essence, therefore, if we’re going to save one of our best loved wild animals from being killed indiscriminately, in large numbers and for no purpose – in a misguided and unscientific attempt to reduce the impact of Bovine TB.

Tuesday 11th September is the next big date in the calendar, with a national rally on College Green in Bristol, between 4.30pm and 7.00pm. Joe Duckworth, our Chief Executive, is chairing the rally. Speakers include Brian May, the legendary Queen guitarist, on behalf of his charity Save Me; Gavin Grant, Chief Executive of RSPCA; Mark Jones, UK Director of Humane Society International and several others.

Between them, the speakers will be setting out the various reasons why the cull shouldn’t go ahead, including on scientific and humanitarian grounds, and explaining the alternatives. They’ll be also asking people for their support and informing people of the next steps of the campaign. We hope very much that you can attend.

In addition to the very very serious purpose of the event, we’re also inviting people to come dressed as a badger and offering a prize to the best dressed badger.

Here’s a link to the poster of the rally

We will be sharing the Number 10 Downing Street petition in the next couple of days, which we’d very much like you and everyone you know to sign.

If we get 100,000 signatures, the issue has to be debated in the House of Commons, so please help us to get there.

You can also join us on Facebook at www.facebook.co/stopthecullcampaign and Twitter by using the hashtag #stopthecull.

And please do try and join us in Bristol on Tuesday. It would be really good to see you there.

The louder our collective voice, the harder it’s going to for the cull to go ahead …’
