Cambridgeshire: ‘”Despicable” raiders wreck home of animal charity’

Today (24th December), a news item was posted on titled ‘”Despicable” raiders wreck home of animal charity’.

‘… Raiders who targeted an animal charity wrecked the building causing thousands of pounds of damage.

The “despicable” criminals broke into Wood Green Animal Shelter, in Chishill Road, Heydon.

Nothing was taken during the break-in but the offenders caused a significant amount of damage.

A police spokesman said: “To target a charity is a particularly low act. Money which was due to be spent on the care of animals will now have to be used to pay for repairs.

“I would urge anyone with any information to call police.”

The attack happened between 9.50pm and 10.50pm on Thursday (December 20). Details of the raid have only just been released by police.

Dennis Baker, Wood Green chief executive, said: “Although no money was stolen, considerable damage was done and the cost of repairs will be significant.

“This was not mindless thuggery, but a deliberate, despicable act to steal money from a charity.”
